Tarana Station Building Re-opening

After three decades closed to the public, Tarana Railway Station’s historic building has re-opened following a major restoration project led by the Transport Asset Holding Entity (TAHE).

The heritage repair and restoration works have transformed the station with new passenger facilities including platform facing waiting rooms and accessible bathroom facilities – the first in the town.

Chief Executive Officer of TAHE, Benedicte Colin, says the project has been a two year collaboration between Transport for NSW, Sydney Trains, NSW TrainLink and the local community.

“From Bungandore in the south, to Scone in the north, we’re committed to delivering improvements to our heritage stations and inviting the community to celebrate and share in the new spaces that are created,” she said.

“It’s fantastic that our regional rail passengers will have access to these new facilities and that the Tarana locals will be able to enjoy this historic station once again.”

TAHE’s Community Heritage Program will be restoring and reactivating stations just like this throughout the State.

Since its commencement in 2021, the program has unlocked a number of new community opportunities including the restoration of the 140 year old Blayney Station in NSW’s Central West, housing a new arts and cultural facility and visitor experience installation.

Similar community heritage events are planned for Gunning Station and Hamilton Signal Box in coming months.
