TAHE was established as a state-owned corporation on 1 July 2020, the owner of an extensive portfolio of railway assets, networks and infrastructure across NSW.

Transport Asset Holding Entity has been given a very specific role in the NSW rail system. The entity has been established as a strategic asset manager with a focus on holding, establishing, financing, acquiring, and developing transport assets that maximise value for the community and shareholders.
A number of asset custodian and delegated asset steward organisations undertake end to end management of assets on TAHE’s behalf. These organisations are responsible for developing the maintenance, refurbishment, and replacement strategies for the assets to balance risks, performance, and costs.
